Just in time for the 2008 Summer Olympics the Commune by the Great Wall hotel has just completed its new children’s facility. The brightly colored kid-friendly structure hosts programs specially designed for young guests from arts and crafts and cooking classes to storytelling and music lessons. The hotel is nestled in the lush Shuiguan Mountains just an hour’s drive from Beijing and comes equipped with individual villas and several outdoor swimming pools. The hotel also offers older kids day trips to the Great Wall.
SCOTLAND
The phenomenal success of the Harry Potter franchise has made Scotland a must-visit destination for kids. And no hotel has embraced the growing trend of upscale family travel quite like the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. The property is home to the “Five-Star Babies, Kids, and Teens” program, which provides guests with everything from bottle warmers and diaper-changing mats for babies to teddy bears and rubber ducks for toddlers. If you are traveling with teens the hotel offers PlayStations and complimentary 15-minute Internet cards. The property is also known for going all out during the holiday season. For example, Santa Claus pays visits to younger guests during Christmas, while the Easter Bunny hops in on Easter Sunday. In addition, the hotel is known for having one of the best specialty children’s menus in the world.
CARIBBEAN
It’s the sunny resort where Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt recently took their entire brood to vacation, yet families who don’t pack as much star power as Brangelina still get treated like royalty at Caneel Bay in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. The upscale Caribbean getaway boasts seven private beaches as well as an extensive children’s program that includes nature walks, magic shows and a nanny service.
