Looking back at my previous blogs listing dozens of family friendly festivals taking place this summer in the Midwest you might think that all I do on vacation is eat. Yes, food is at the center of many summer festivals, but as this blog will illustrate there are tons of events, which feature much more than just corn, strawberries, or ribs.
Here now are more extremely family friendly festivals taking place this month in and around the “Land of Lincoln.”
Ethnic Arts Festival. This art fair features more than 125 artists representing 80 cultures. It also features music, food and family activities. It takes place on July 21-22 at Dawes Park in Evanston.
Sheffield Garden Walk. The walk features self-guided tours of more than 100 gardens in the Lincoln Park neighborhood near DePaul University, plus there’s live entertainment. The walk takes place on July 21-22.
Peruvian Festival. The event is filled with dancers, singers and musicians. It takes place at Daley Plaza from July 25-27.
Arts & Crafts Expressions. The annual art show takes place on Canal Street at Madison Street on July 26 and 27.
Fiesta Del Sola. This popular celebration takes place in the Pilsen neighborhood and features entertainment and family events. The entire event is alcohol-and-tobacco-free and runs from July 26-29.
Venetian Night. This legendary festival features more than 30 decorated boats on display in Lake Michigan and also includes a fireworks show. It takes place at Monroe Harbor on July 28th.
GhanaFest. The festival features a celebration of Ghanaian culture including food, traditional drumming and dance, and other entertainment. In takes place in Washington Park on July 28th.
Summer On Southport. This annual event features two stages of live music, an art show, food, and family entertainers. It is also know as the Chicago Children’s Festival. It takes place on July 28th and 29th at Southport Avenue between Byron Street and Waveland Avenue.
