More Toy Storage Ideas – Large and Small Boxes

Many people buy large plastic storage boxes to store their childrens’ toys. They just put the boxes in the kids’ bedrooms or in the corner of the living room, and dump all the toys into them. This seems to be a good idea to keep the room tidy. You just need to dump everything into the boxes.

But there will be some problems when it’s time to play. With all the toys in one large box, it is quite difficult for the children to find the toys they want to play with at certain time. It will be even more trouble if they want to play with a set of toys, if they are all lumped together with other toys. The struggle to find the toys that they want and to find the complete sets may be too frustrating before they can begin to play.

So which boxes should we use for the toys?

It might be a good idea to use boxes of different sizes. Large boxes are ideal to store large-sized toys, such as balls and Teddy bears. For other toys it is best to use a combination of medium-sized boxes and small boxes. Small boxes are particularly useful to store sets of small pieces, such as puzzles, lego bricks and doll house furniture.

You can buy plastic storage boxes at nearly every department store. Choose the transparent and colorful ones so you can easily see what’s inside. The color can help you organize the toys. For example, red boxes for construction toys and blue boxes for arts and crafts.

If you don’t want to buy plastic boxes, you can make your own using cardboard boxes and shoe boxes. Ask your children to paint them, or decorate them with paper from old magazines and wrapping paper. Just put labels on the boxes to identify the contents.
