Mother’s Day Not a Complete Bust

So how was your Mother’s Day? Mother’s Day for me was not a complete bust as I sort of took control of it. On Friday I went shopping and decided that I was going to buy my own gift. So I picked up a Keurig coffeemaker and I have been enjoying it all weekend. I think it actually took the pressure off my husband and despite the fact I got it my own, I was totally okay with that.

I also threw in a new outfit, complete with a necklace and bracelet as well. I figured I might as well spoil myself.

Then I was surprised Saturday by my daughter. She had spent all morning cleaning out the garage to earn money. My husband then drove her to the store and she went inside all on her own and picked out a card, flowers, and my favorite candy. She was so excited that she didn’t want to wait until Sunday to give it to me.

It meant so much to me that she would work to earn the money and that she picked everything out on her own. Then on Sunday my youngest son presented me with a picture. It read, “I know I might not give you stuff for Mother’s Day and your birthday, so I drew a picture for you. I love you.”

Then he drew a scene from our yard, where our swinging bench sits beside a tree. He is quite an artist and it was a really beautiful picture. I absolutely loved that he did this for me.

From my oldest I just got a “Happy Mother’s Day” in the morning and well, that was about all. I just tell myself, “He is a 17-year-old boy who will one day understand the importance of this day to me.”

So while I can’t say it was the best Mother’s Day, I can say it was pretty okay. I might have ideas on how I would really like the day to go but for now, I am just appreciating the fact that I am a mother.

Sometimes it’s really all about perspective.
