Movies Week in Review: December 24th – 29th

Wondering which movies to rent next time you’re at the video store? Come check out this week’s reviews and you’ll get some great ideas.

The Clock,” starring Judy Garland and Robert Walker, is one you may want to skip over if you’re looking for an in-depth plot. Walker plays a soldier on a two-day leave who meets the girl of his dreams, and after spending a whole day together, decides to marry her before returning to the front. That’s basically all there is to the story. It’s not a musical, so don’t expect Judy to sing.

Forever Young,” on the other hand, is a fabulous film starring Mel Gibson as a pilot from 1939 who is cryogenically frozen and then awakened in the 1990’s. May I just say, the blue denim shirt he wears in his movie is really nice with his eyes.

A Kiss Before Dying” is a murder mystery starring Robert Wagner, Joanne Woodward, and Virginia Leith. When Bud Corliss’s girlfriend announces she’s pregnant, his dreams go up in smoke. Concocting a wild plan to get rid of her, he has to cover his tracks when her sister comes to investigate.

Return with Honor” is the newest LDS cinematic release and features a young man, just returned from his mission, who is in a car accident and is told by a heavenly being that he only has sixty days to set things right with his non-member mother. Not wanting to saddle his fiancé with a husband just to leave her a widow, he pulls back from the marriage plans and concentrates on teaching his mother the Gospel, only to learn the most important lesson of all – he needs to love, not judge.

We hope you’ll be able to join us again next week here in Movie Reviews, and in the meantime, Happy New Year!
