Movies Week in Review January 28th – February 2nd

Life sure gets crazy sometimes! If you were too busy stamping out fires to join us here in Movie Reviews, that’s okay—I’ve got your back. Here’s a summary of the films reviewed this week so you can catch up.

We kicked off the week with a live-action version of “Alice in Wonderland,” starring Tina Majorino, Whoopi Goldberg, and Gene Wilder. I’m sorry to say I was disappointed in the film and recommend that you stick with the classic Disney version.

Next came “Shenandoah,” the brilliant classic starring Jimmy Stewart, who plays a Virginia farmer named Charlie. The Civil War is raging on all sides of Charlie’s farm, but he refuses to get involved until his youngest son is captured and held prisoner, and then it becomes Charlie’s war after all.

We also enjoyed “The Rocketeer,” a fanciful adventure about a young pilot who stumbles upon a jet pack designed for use by soldiers in World War II. The FBI wants it back, the mob wants it back, and the Nazis want it back. Only some clever thinking and a whole lot of bravery will get them all out of this mess.

My favorite film of the week was “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a romantic comedy about a girl who is writing an article on classic dating don’ts. She’s sure she can get a guy to dump her within ten days, but she doesn’t know that she’s up against a guy who has a bet to make her fall in love with him in ten days. She spends her time being annoying, he spends his time being charming – who will win? I encourage you to read the full review for content concerns.

We hope you’ll be able to join us again here in Movie Reviews, and in the meantime, be sure to stock up on popcorn because this week’s line-up is going to be great.
