Movies Week in Review June 2nd-7th

Welcome to our Movies Week in Review!

First of all, we’ve had a few changes to our Movie Blogger lineup. We are now joined by Heather Long, Lyn Newton and Valorie Delp who will be helping me keep you informed of all the great movies that are currently being released and were released in the past. Welcome, ladies!

Now, for the reviews.

We started the week with “Desk Set,” a classic movie starring Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Hepburn is head of the research department in a large office building, and Tracy has been brought in to increase productivity. They weren’t expecting to fall in love, but it was inevitable.

We all remember “Air Bud,” right? “Snow Buddies” continues the saga with golden retriever puppies, who wander onto an ice cream truck and end up being dropped in Alaska. Each pup has a distinctive personality and we hear them speaking to each other, which adds humor to this cute family film.

Next we had a review of “A Kid in King Arthur’s Court” about a young teenage boy who is transported back to the time of King Arthur by Merlin’s magical power. Merlin had meant to summon a knight, but instead got a boy who played for the “Knights,” a local baseball team. Merlin will take whatever he can get, and the two end up saving Camelot.

Bridge to Terabithia” is a fun adventure. A girl with a vivid imagination and her friend create a whole new world in the field across from their homes, a world filled with trolls and danger. Not suitable for children under the age of five, older children and parents will find it a fun story, although a tearjerker.

Nicholas Cage stars in “National Treasure 2 – Book of Secrets,” the much-awaited sequel to his first hit. This time around, Cage must solve a mystery that revolves around the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and he hunts down a missing page from John Wilkes Booth’s diary that might shed more light on the historical event.

Do you ever feel like little people are stealing things from your house? You know, the tape you can never find, the pen you just had? In “The Borrowers,” little people are taking things, but not stealing them, mind you—they’re just borrowing them. And together they’ll help a whole family keep their home and save it from demolition.

We ended the week with a movie I can’t wait to see – “Kung Fu Panda.” Jack Black voices the character of Po, a huge panda who trains in the art of Kung Fu, fulfilling a prophecy that has long been had in their area. It’s not easy, but he completes his training and goes on to be an unlikely hero, and a hysterical one at that.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s summary and that you’ll find something here that will appeal to you. See you next week!
