My Dark Ebay Secret

Okay, I have a hard time admitting this. I know that many people will scoff and argue with me about my point of view, but I must admit that I really have never found a great bargain on Ebay. Or at least nearly never.

It seems like more than ninety percent of the time, when I go to Ebay looking for a bargain on something, I end up disappointed at how much the items actually cost. I find myself thinking that I could get comparable items somewhere else for just as little or less. For instance, at Christmastime I was looking for an Mp3 player for my husband. After finding a good deal at my local Best Buy, I thought I would check some online stores and Ebay to see if I could save even more. Not so. The best deal came from my nearby store, with no shipping costs.

Shipping costs is another story in and of itself. Sometimes, I have stumbled across a great bargain, only to find that the shipping costs far outweigh any savings I would have otherwise received.

So really, how do you get a great deal on Ebay? I’m just not certain that a lot of them exist. I know that there are people out there who really swear by the online giant. Maybe I just don’t have enough Ebay experience yet to really have it figured out. So far, I have found that Ebay is a great place to find hard-to-find items that would otherwise have you searching from store to store. Otherwise, I just don’t know if it is worth the hype.

Really, my opinion is that the people that love Ebay for its great deals are those who might be not be the thrift store or Wal-Mart type. They might scoff at buying from these places, and yet love to buy used items on Ebay. However, if these same folks were willing to shop at a thrift store, they would realize that Ebay is not all that it is cracked up to be. Or, am I wrong?
