My Favorite Winter Activity

When the weather gets frigid, the babies and toddlers get antsy! It’s hard to play outside and get those wiggles out when the cold air stings your nose and numbs your toes. After being holed up in the house for a few days, everyone starts to get cabin fever!

One of my favorite things to do when it gets cold outside is pack up the little man and drive to the mall. The mall is the perfect hang out spot for multiple reasons:

1. It’s a break for me. I can strap my son into the stroller and window shop. I get to relax my mind a bit and walk at my own leisurely pace. I bring a snack cup and drink for my toddler, which keeps him as content as can be. He enjoys looking at everything in the stores, too, especially this time of year, since everything is decorated for Christmas.

2. It’s a chance to wear the kids out. Our mall, like most, has a soft play area in the center of the mall. It’s pretty big and it is full of slides and semi-soft structures that are designed for little climbers. I set my sock-footed toddler loose and he is entertained for a long time. By the time we are ready to go, he is worn out and ready for lunch. He always naps well afterward, too!

3. It’s a great place to spend time with friends. “Let’s go to the mall” is the phrase that every mom loves to hear, right? Time to talk, get something special from the food court and look at something other than our messy living rooms is the perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon!

There are a few cons of course. For one, there is always something that I would love to buy, but cannot afford. I have to avoid the makeup counter because I feel like they are looking at me and thinking, “she needs a makeover.” I also have to dodge those pesky sales people in the center of the mall who try to get me to thread my eyebrows, sniff their perfume, let them straighten my hair or upgrade my cell phone. But all things considered, I still think the mall is a great place.
