I’m going through clothing right now, but there is more ahead.
So, we are still in my master closet, and regarding clothing, I also got rid of items that needed repair. Since I hadn’t bothered to repair anything in years, there was probably very little chance that I would have the motivation to do so any time soon. Maybe it is wasteful not to repair the skirt with the pulled out hem, for example, but it is just as wasteful to leave it sitting in my closet and away from someone else who might just make use of it.
Having weeded out the clothes, I had to weed out the hangers. Sure I needed to keep some for future clothes, since my wardrobe is slight, but I didn’t need three times as many hangers as clothes. My husband’s side of the hanging part of the closet also contained more hangers than clothes. I am convinced that if you leave hangers alone in a darkened closet they will go forth and multiply. I’m not sure how they do this, but I know we didn’t bring any new hangers home, did we?
I pulled all of the empty hangers from the rods and weeded and weeded them, keeping only speciality hangers, such as an appropriate (and small) number of pants hangers, skirt hangers and suit hangers, along with a few wooden or good quality plastic hangers for future use. A started adding the left overs to a bag for donation (thrift stores love hangers), but then I realized I needed something more heavy duty. In interrupted my work just long enough to fetch a big box from the garage. The cat had to be evicted from it before I could dump any actual hangers into it.
After the hangers, I addressed items that should not be in the master closet, such as those extra sets of sheets. But of course, that lead to another closet all together: the linen closet. The shoes will have to wait.
