MyHeritage Splits Membership Costs Across Families

tree MyHeritage, the genealogy website, is something that can be used for free. They do have some paid membership options that will give you access to more of the features on the website, if you want it. There is a new change that will allow families who use MyHeritage to split the cost of membership between them.

MyHeritage has been adding new features to its website for quite some time now. Not too long ago, they added something called “Smart Matches”. It automatically connects members who appear to have added the same person to their family trees. It is a way for people who use MyHeritage to locate new relatives that they may not have known about before they started using the service.

Now, they have added something called “Our Family Goal”. This is a way to help make membership subscriptions more affordable. If you are using MyHeritage, and there are other genealogists in your family who are also using it, then this could be something you will want to check out.

It works like this. People who are members of MyHeritage will have a family site that appears when they sign into the website. Somewhere on that page, there will be a button called “Our Family Goal”. You must have ten or more members of your family on your family site in order to be eligible to use this button.

“Our Family Goal” is something you must opt-into, by signing up for it. Select the target membership plan that you are seeking, and how long of a duration you want that subscription to last for. Setting this up does not mean that you necessarily have to be the first person that chips in money toward the goal.

Next, you can invite your relatives who also use MyHeritage into the Goal. They can start contributing funding immediately. The Family Goal page will show you the progress of the contributions that have been made, so you can easily keep track of it.

It will say which of your family members have chipped in money. It also keeps track of how many days you have left to make your goal. Your family members who have become a part of “Our Family Goal” will get reminders in their email as the deadline for the goal approaches.

Overall, this system allows families who use the MyHeritage website to help each other pay for each person’s membership. You can pool your funds together, and spread them out in ways that will best benefit your family. It is a way to help your family with funding their memberships for MyHeritage, without actually having to get out your credit card and purchase the entire membership cost for them.

A basic membership to MyHeritage is free. Their Premium membership costs $6.25 per month, (and you will be billed annually for it). They also have a PremiumPlus membership, which costs $9.95 per month, (and is also billed annually). You can choose a membership that lasts one year, two years, or five years.
