New Weight Loss Blogger Hopes to Change Her Odds

One in eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That is a scary statistic in and of itself. Now imagine that your mother was diagnosed at 48, and shortly after, died of breast cancer and that both of your grandmothers contracted and died from breast cancer. That’s my reality. As a result, I have become passionate about what is going into my body and maintaining optimal health. While only a limited number of breast cancers are hereditary, I still want to do everything I can to avoid the same fate, and be around for my two small children.

My name is Janelle Romano and I have joined Families.com as a Fitness and Weight Loss blogger. I have been interested in health and fitness my entire life. When I was younger, I was a cheerleader and participated in a variety of other sports. However, when I entered high school my metabolism changed. My usual sports and cheering no longer kept me from gaining weight. My petite frame showed it very easily, and I began my lifelong struggle with trying to keep off extra weight.

My doctor told me that as an adult I could reduce my cancer risk by “simply” not gaining weight–as little as 10 extra pounds. Sounds easy enough, right? If you are reading this, you probably know that losing and keeping off any amount of weight is not easy. However, that does not mean it can not or should not be done.

After I had my first child, I left corporate America and decided to pursue my passion for fitness and nutrition. Currently, I am the owner of a fitness company called Muscular Mommies and am an AFAA certified instructor. I teach fitness classes and work to improve my clients’ overall health. In my blogs, I hope to save you time and money as I share my research and experience from working with my clients. I have found quick, easy and (sometimes not so easy) ways to make my life and my clients’ lives healthier, and our waistlines smaller. I believe that we all have limited time and deserve to look and feel fabulous.

After the birth of my daughter, and the loss of my father this past year, I have even more reason to keep the weight off. I look forward to sharing in our mutual successes and challenges as we continue on our journey to great health.
