Online Inspiration

Have you ever gotten into a scrapbooking rut? Are your memory albums beginning to look alike?

Whenever I need a little creative inspiration I head over to my local scrapbooking store and drool over the incredible page designs the owner places on her “Theme of the Month” display table.

The last time I was there was shortly after New Year’s. The table was filled with winter-themed layouts, featuring die cut snowmen, snowflakes made from vellum and icicles crafted from parchment paper and doused with sparkly clear glitter.

If you don’t live near a scrapbooking specialty shop, there’s no need to feel alone. There’s still a way for you to view awe-inspiring page designs, learn new techniques and swap tips with fellow crafters: online scrapbook message boards.

My first experience using a scrapbook message board came when I was looking for additional information on a convention I planned to attend. I was able to access reviews on the demonstrators and obtain helpful tips on where to park and what to bring.

If you are looking to ask questions or you’re requesting feedback on an online message board I would suggest visiting major sites, such as Two Peas in a Bucket. The online community at this reputable site is phenomenal. Not only can you view an extensive gallery of gorgeous layouts, but also there’s an entire section of the site devoted to online discussions of scrapbook-related topics. The message boards cover everything from product reviews to tips on digital scrapbooking. There’s even a forum where you can read tips on taking better pictures to feature in your layouts. The site is easy to navigate, professionally run (no nasty comments allowed), and best of all, there are plenty of photos to browse, so you can see exactly what contributors are referencing.

If you are a die hard scrapbooker, then you may enjoy ScrapJazz. The site has a loyal following of more than 10,000 members. What I appreciate the most about this forum is that you can use it to search for crafters who live near your home. The site offers a regional breakdown of the United States. You simply click on the area you reside and you will be led to an entire community of fellow scrapbookers you can call on if you need a creative lift.
