Ooh Went the Wind…

Do you know that poem about the five little pumpkins? My kids have been singing it all morning in response to our our storm that we are anticipating.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate

First one said, “Oh my its getting late

Second one said, “There’s a wind in the air.”

Third one said, “But we don’t care.”

Fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”

Fifth one said, “I’m ready for some fun.”

Then ooh went the wind and out went the light

And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

The wind is howling something fierce right now, and the tree branches are shaking and waving. It is one of those days that you know something is going to happen. We all have a sense of batting down the hatches. My daughter Molly, has asked for her flashlight to turn the lights back on if we lose power.

Still, I couldn’t help but open a few windows, since the blowing wind is in the upper 60s and warmer than we usually keep our house. The wind and the warmth is a strange thing in February.

I am here in the kid’s bathroom, while the two youngest are taking a bath together and singing the song. (My eldest is at school). It is cozy in here, so I can put off thoughts of checking the battery operated lamp and flashlights, and hauling up some bottled water from the basement.

The weather station predicts that the brunt of the storm will hit sometime in later afternoon, hopefully after my eldest returns on the bus from school and my husband commutes home from work.

What is it like at your house today?
