Our Eighth Prenatal Visit

Three weeks have come and gone
once again. This is our last appointment with a three week interval. From now onward we will meet with our midwife in two weeks and then every week until the baby is born. This particular day is a busy one for us so we awoke earlier than normal. After a quick breakfast of Greek yogurt, I exercised right away while our son slept and my husband worked on his dissertation. I wanted to get my workout done before the appointment because I wanted to avoid not being able to squeeze it in after the appointment.

For the first time my husband and son did not accompany me to the prenatal appointment. My husband needed to stay home to sign for a package. I headed off to the midwife’s alone … it was kind of nice to have some time alone. Upon arrival, I collected my urine sample. At this stage in pregnancy perfect pee is crucial … and mine was …. perfect. Then the midwife took my blood pressure which was also great at one hundred and two over sixty. Next came the part I dread … stepping on the scale. My weight gain is one pound which is perfect because it finally catches me up from my excessive weight gain over two months ago. Then my midwife checks my calves and feet for swelling and other abnormalities; they look great!. We chat about my diet and exercise to which my midwife comments that I look great and that I am doing really well! Thank goodness! Then it is time to check my fundal height which measures at exactly thirty four centimeter (I am thirty three weeks and six days)! After the midwife measures my belly, she feels for the baby’s position … still head down! Then we listen to the baby’s heart beat which is good and strong at one hundred and forty beats per minute!
