Our Top 10 Family Activities

Here are the top 10 activities that my family likes to do. What activities does your family enjoy doing?

1. Watch a movie. Friday nights are movie nights. We usually get pizza and watch a family movie. It isn’t always easy finding something that everyone can enjoy, but the search is worth it. There is nothing like squishing together on the couch for good, fun family entertainment.

2. Go swimming. I’m not sure what attraction the water has for kids, but most kids love the water. Mine are no exception. Whether it is splashing in the little pool in the backyard, swimming at a community pool, or going to a water park they are happy as long as it involves water and sunshine.

3. Read a book. Reading stories is a part of our daily lives. Every evening we read picture books to our girls (Tyler often joins in). Then I read to Tyler from a longer chapter book. None of them can go to bed without the evening ritual of story reading.

4. Jump on the trampoline. Our children are constantly asking my husband or I to jump on the trampoline. After all its always more fun when mom or dad are involved.

5. Make cookies. A cookie always tastes better when you’ve helped make it yourself. Plus you get the added benefit of licking the beaters.

6. Have Family Home Evening. Every Monday night is family night. We get together sing a song, have a scripture related activity (usually a game when it’s my kids turn to pick), and of course finish the evening with treats.

7. Play games. Since my children are young their favorite games consist of “Duck, Duck, Goose,” “Hide-and-go-seek,” and “Ring-around-the-Rosies.” My son enjoys playing board and card games as well. His favorite is Monopoly Junior.

8. Wrestle with dad. One of our kids favorite things to do is dog-pile on dad. Almost every evening Gene gets down on the floor and the kids spend time climbing on and over him – their own personal jungle gym.

9. Dance. It’s always a good time to put on some music and dance around the living room floor.

10. Playing computer or video games. My son loves to play racing games with his dad or one of his games for multiple players. I often get on the computer and play games with my two girls. They love that mommy is playing with them and I can help reinforce the concepts that the games are teaching.

Note: I have a young family. My children are ages 6, 4, and 2. So the activities that we do may be different from those families with older children.
