Too often as adults we forget about the simple joys. We forget what it’s like to just go out and play. When was the last time you went down a slide? What about ride on some swings? Have you pushed a merry go round to get it up to speed and just hopped on to laugh? Have you thrown the ball around, and laughed? Have you thrown a Frisbee for the dog or picked up a rock to skip stones across the calm pond?
Have you jumped on your bike and taken a long ride along a winding trail and felt the wind in your face and hair? Have you drawn hopscotch on the ground and gone skipping along it? Not only is remembering how to play good for you physically, it’s great for you mentally. Look at the kids on the playground running around, laughing and playing. They shriek when they come down the slides. They giggle when they play tag. They even crack up when they throw the ball back and forth.
You don’t have to be good at any of these things to have a good time and to relax and play and enjoy yourself. You don’t have to do any of these things to really benefit from what you are doing. So while you are running around taking care of things and getting your errands done and coping with your responsibilities and being an adult – don’t forget to play.
Grab a ball or a Frisbee and go outside and toss it around. Go out for a hike and explore a part of the neighborhood you may not have gotten to see that much of. Go to the playground and swing on the swings. Go climb on the monkey bars and let yourself laugh and enjoy.
So what are you still sitting there for – get out the house and go play.
