Peanut Butter Play Clay – Preschool Craft

My last post was on the best recipe ever for play clay for kids. I wasn’t lying, but there is another great play clay that works especially well for preschoolers who are prone to eating play dough rather than just playing with it. Although the other play clay is non-toxic, it’ll probably turn your tongue blue and doesn’t taste so hot (How do I know this? I take my job VERY seriously.)

Although you probably won’t want to serve this to your preschooler in a dish with a spoon, he or she can eat some of this clay without fear. It’s pretty tasty, if I do say so myself.

Here’s the recipe:

Edible Peanut Butter Play Clay

1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
1 cup powdered milk

Mix the ingredients together. If it is a little on the wet side, add a bit more powdered milk. It should feel fairly dry, not sticky, but not so dry that it crumbles.

You can store this clay in the refrigerator for a few days if you seal it in an airtight container. A plastic container with a tight lid or a heavy-duty zip-style plastic bag works well. After your child handles the clay, however, you’ll want to throw it away rather than save it.

Set out some waxed paper and let your kids make some peanutty creations. It’s fun to add a few edible garnishes to their creations if you have them on hand. Here are a few ideas: mini chocolate chips, raisins, cereal, such as Cheerios or Kix, small carrot sticks, goldfish crackers, pretzel sticks etc…

Best of all, when play time is done, you’ve already got snack time covered!
