Perfect Design

As I was eating some cookies that I baked yesterday a thought occurred to me. It is incredibly easy to completely mess up a batch of cookies by missing an ingredient, using the wrong amount of an ingredient, using an old ingredient, or even setting the oven to the wrong temperature. In fact I’ve ruined cookies more times than I would want to admit. So what does this have to do with anything? This thought and experience made me greatly appreciate the most excellent, perfect design in everything in the world which God created.

When I think about all that is in the world I am overwhelmed by the diversity as well as the complexity of the creation. I find all kinds of animals, from the butterfly to the beluga whale, interesting and intriguing. There are so many different creatures on God’s earth, some of which are still being discovered today, and each creature has a unique design and purpose on the earth. And not only is God’s creation filled with a great variety of animals, but it is also filled with a beautiful flora and landscape for the creatures to dwell in.

The complexity within God’s creation can be seen through the human body. Even with all the advances in medicine today, man still does not understand the intricacies of the human body. The complex mechanisms which allow us to hear, see, smell, taste, touch, breathe, and think are remarkable. The ability for man to interact physically and emotionally within his environment is equally, if not more complex than the mechanisms which allow man to live.

It is so hard for me to understand the thought that this all occurred by accident. I think about my cookies and the chances that the ingredients would somehow come together on their own to form the delicious treat. It is at times like these I am awed at the power of God. In Romans 1:20 Paul, speaking of God, writes, “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.”
