Photo Essay Project

I have a photo essay project rolling around in my head that really needs to happen soon. I want to photograph a day in the life of my 14 year old son. The issue is he has been a bit annoyed with the camera in his face lately so this could be quite the challenge. When he sees me coming with a camera the hand goes to the lens in a “no paparazzi” pose. Outside it isn’t an issue. With a powerful zoom I can get the shots I want from a distance. However inside is a whole different story, he sees me coming and the flash is a dead give away. Not sure how I am going to pull this one off. If I can make it happen I know one day he will look back at it and love showing it to his own kids.

Here is my game plan. It will have to be a weekend day. I work full time and there is no real way to document his day at school anyway. My thoughts were to take a photo of him every half hour no matter what he is doing plus take photos of him as he goes about his day. A normal weekend day he is up by 7am and goes to bed around 11pm. Seventeen hours, photos twice a hour and additional photos as he goes from activity to activity. If I plan it right I can get about 50 photos out of it. That would be an awesome story board or DVD to look back on later as he grows up. I really want to capture the things that are important to him at this point in his life. Things like playing WOW (World of Warcraft). If I am lucky I might even be able to catch him doing some homework.

I will keep you posted. My goal is to get this done before he turns 15 in March.
