Photo Sharing Sites: Flickr.com

I thought I would do a few pieces about photo sharing sites. I’m going to start with a few of the more popular free sites out there. For today’s piece, I am going to review flickr.com. Flickr has become quite popular for online photo sharing. The site is pretty low key, with few bells and whistles. It’s got a clean user interface, which offers just the most basic of features.

A basic account at Flickr.com is free, and gives users the ability to upload their photos, make them either public or private, and share with friends and family. You have the ability to view photos in several sizes, rotate them, and post them to blogs and other websites, using a basic HTML code that Flickr.com will create for you. You are able to organize your photos into different categorized folders, to make them easier to browse through. With a Flickr.com basic (FREE) account, you can upload 20MB of photos per month for free. This is a bandwidth limit, not a storage limit, and it is reset to zero at the beginning of each calendar month. Flickr.com also offers pro accounts, with 2GB of monthly bandwidth, for $24.95 per year.

The basic free account offers the same features, just with less bandwidth, so it is really a great way to try out the service and decide if you want, or even NEED to pay for an annual pro account.

Give it a try, and please, feel free to comment here on any experiences you may have with Flickr.com.
