Photographing Baby: Preparing for a Photo Session

Taking fabulous photographs of your baby, does not mean you have to own a top of the line, perfect camera. In fact, you can get awesome results, with simply a point and shoot camera. No professional experience is required. I’m assuming that if you are reading this article, that is what you are looking for. Amazing pictures of your baby, with little or no experience needed on your part.

As parents, we wish to capture every special moment of our child’s life. The time that passes the quickest is the baby stage. We want to remember every detail, every chubby leg or fist, every drooling moment, and every special smile. However, wouldn’t you like to commemorate those moments in a special way? Wouldn’t it be nice to not just have a snapshot of your baby, but truly have a captured piece of art. A captured moment.

Before we get to the actual photo session, let’s talk about what needs to occur before you set aside this time for a photo session. First, baby needs to be clean, dry, well rested, happy and fed, not necessarily in that order, but these things need to occur before you grab the camera. In addition, you need to be all these things too. If either or both involved parties are not properly rested, fed, etc. it will make for a crabby baby and a not to patient mom. So just be sure that is something you have taken care of.

When actually preparing for a photo session, the following things are necessary to get started. A camera – digital or film. A baby or Toddler. A door. A Window. A Plain Background such as a solid painted wall. Many people like to use plain sheets or blankets draped over an object, or even poster board or something similar.
