Finding creative inspiration in nature is easy. Nature is full of bright colors and amazing patterns. Those nature photos can be even more inspirational when they include your family members.
Nature photography is a great time to use your high powered zoom lens. Landscape scenes like the beach or mountains make awesome photos. Take a minute to figure out what attracted you to the location. After shooting a few wide angle shots to get the whole scene try a few isolating details. For example at the beach get your sunset photo that shows the big picture. Then zoom in on the details, the outline of sea oats against the setting sun. Or photograph light reflecting off small pools of water near the shoreline.
I have mentioned many times before and will undoubtedly mention many more times, keep your backgrounds simple. Cluttered backgrounds will draw unwanted attention. You can eliminate some of the clutter by getting close to your subject. If you can walk around your subject try getting at it from a different angle. Sometimes moving just a few inches can change the entire feel of a photo. Try getting underneath your subject and making the blue sky your background.
Fill the entire frame of view with your subject. Get in close to a blossom or just the face of an animal. Have the subject overflow outside of the frame. It will make your subject more dramatic. Vertical subjects should be taken vertical. Giraffes and trees are good examples of vertical subjects that look better in vertical photos.
Most of my nature photos are taken when I am on vacation with my family. But nature photos can really be taken anytime or anywhere. Most of the year there are great flowers all around my house. I work near a Nature Center which provides the perfect source for nature photos in a larger city. Zoos are also another great source for finding inspiration from nature.
