Photography Week in Review April 28-May 2, 2008

May is National Photography Month and this week I provided a list of some of the most photogenic places in the world. But before that I provided Mother’s Day gift ideas for the snap happy mom in your life and wrote about an incredible photo project featuring terminally ill children and ways you can help their parents endure their darkest days. If you missed any of the aforementioned articles this Week in Review is designed especially for you.

April 28th—–A New Camera for Mom. If you are looking to purchase mom a new camera for Mother’s Day this is the blog for you. In it I list some of the most popular digital cameras on the market. Warning: Some of them will have you digging deep to surprise mom.

April 29thPicture This. If you thought December and January were the busiest times of the year for shutterbugs, think again. According to my friend who owns a photo lab, the months of May and June are primetime for picture taking. Mother’s and Father’s Day along with school graduations and the start of baseball season inspire millions of family photographers to snap like there’s no tomorrow. In this blog I thought it would be helpful to review the two most popular types of digital cameras available, not only for moms, but for new grads, dads and sports enthusiasts as well.

April 29th—–Taking Pictures of Sick Kids. I am an avid photographer, but I don’t think I would have had the foresight or desire to take pictures of my child as he or she fought to breathe in a cold and sterile hospital. Actually, I know I wouldn’t. I would be so busy praying over my child that snapping photos would be the last thing on my mind. However, there are many people who take the time to document the lives of young hospital patients and this blog explains why their hard work pays off in the end.

Michele Cheplic was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, but now lives in Wisconsin. Michele graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Journalism. She spent the next ten years as a television anchor and reporter at various stations throughout the country (from the CBS affiliate in Honolulu to the NBC affiliate in Green Bay). She has won numerous honors including an Emmy Award and multiple Edward R. Murrow awards honoring outstanding achievements in broadcast journalism. In addition, she has received awards from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association for her reports on air travel and the Wisconsin Education Association Council for her stories on education. Michele has since left television to concentrate on being a mom and freelance writer.
