Picking Halloween Pet Toys

Yesterday I wrote about how it was I decided I needed to buy Halloween pet toys for Murph and his best friend Tucker. Today I’m going to tell you how I ended up picking the toys I did. (You may be thinking that sounds a little humdrum, but bear with me. There’s a method to my madness.)

Decisions, Decisions

As I left off in yesterday’s blog, I explained how I’d decided to buy Halloween pet toys from Doctors Foster and Smith. Here are the toys I was deciding between:

During Tucker’s latest visit, he’d found what remained of the witch Woof or Treat plush dog toy I’d bought Murph last year for Halloween. (Murph loved his witch, which is why even though it’s in shreds but still cackles, we haven’t thrown it out.) And I think it’s that very distinct cackle that made this a favorite toy. Murph (this past year, and then Tuck during his latest visit) enjoyed setting off the obnoxious sound.

Karen and Michael, however, didn’t appreciate it too much. So I pretty much decided on scrapping the idea of getting Tuck anything noisy.

I knew the loofas or the Pirate Pal toys wouldn’t last two seconds in Tuck’s mouth. But the Halloween Pumpkin Puzzle was like four toys in one, which was like Murph’s squirrel puzzle. Tuck had enjoyed playing with it and it was one of the few toys he hadn’t destroyed while he was here. Sold!

But I did end up buying a noisy one anyway also.

Murph Gets In On The Act

Drs. F&S had sound bites for all of the other Woof or Treat toys on their site. For grins and giggles, I wanted to hear the sounds they made.

The ghost was so-so. The pumpkin’s “Trick or Treat!” was quick and kind of hard to hear. But the cat’s “Mrrreow!” caught not only my attention but also Murph’s.

He was in the room across the hall from my office and jumped up with ears perked and tail wagging after I played it.

“You like that? Want mama to play it again.”

He wagged his tail faster, so I did.

He cocked his head as it played, and his tail got to wagging so fast I thought he’d wag it right off his butt.

“You want mama to get that for you for Halloween?”

He raised his paw, the one with the cast on it, and waved it at me as if saying, “Yes, please!”

So into the virtual shopping cart it went.

I’m sure Tucker will be delighted with his toy, but that he’ll also have a blast playing with Murph’s new cat.

And if he likes it enough I just may have to get him one of his own. (Even though his parents will probably be less than thrilled with such an obnoxious sounding toy being added to their son’s toy collection. But I know they’ll allow it if they see how happy it makes him.)
