Planning a Ballet Party

If you have a budding ballerina at home then a ballet birthday party may be just thing to keep her on her toes. Preschoolers love to pretend and use their imaginations. Little girls who dream of being ballet dancers will love to pretend they are ballerinas for a day.

Venue:

Call your local dance studios and ask if you can rent out the studio for a day. Many will happily rent out the dance studio and have a teacher or advanced student give a ballet lesson.

If you want to hold your party at home, then clear off a space for little ballerinas to jete to Swan Lake. Maestro Classics offers a CD called The Story of Swan Lake. The CD contains music by Tchaikovsky and background information. It would be a fun CD to play for your little ballerinas. You can still give a mini dance lesson by showing the girls the five ballet positions and plies. You do not have to be technical. Just have fun!

Activity:

Get all the girls dressed up in tutus, ballet hair buns, and stage make up for a performance. The stage make up can be simply lip gloss so there is no need to wear full make up. Take pictures of the girls doing their favorite ballet positions. Use the pictures as personalized thank you cards or party favors if you can print them off during the party.

Decorations:

Pink and tulle are the perfect theme for a ballet party. Pink streamers, pink balloons, pink cupcakes, did I mention pink and ballet go hand in hand? Of course, if your ballerina has a favorite color other than pink, it will do just fine. Use tulle under your table runners for a nice look. Tie long pieces to around the backs of chairs to give a special ballet feminine feel.
