Poised for Prom

Forget about Easter and Mother’s Day, it’s Prompalooza around here. This year several high schools in my area are banning together to host a massive prom event that aims to take over our entire city. Consequently, just about every store marquee from dress boutiques to flower shops, and even my local scrapbook hang-out feature some prom-related message to entice potential teen customers to spend money at a particular retailer.

I don’t know what type of deals are being offered by the florist or the professional photo studio on Main Street, but our local scrapbook store is featuring an entire prom memory book package for about $50. The kit includes: a scrapbook, glitter and metallic cardstock, pattern and plain paper, stickers, stamps, diecuts, markers, flocking powder, rhinestone brads, silk flowers, and ribbons.

In addition, the kit comes with directions on how to create the perfect prom scrapbook and ideas on how to spice up layouts. One of the sections addresses the use of famous quotes that are suitable for use in a prom memory book. Some of the samples include:

“We’re fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance.” –Japanese Proverb

“Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.” –Dave Barry

“It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

The kit is quite comprehensive and for 50 bucks it’s not a bad deal. Of course, you could probably save even more money if you exhausted online resources. For example, I saw that Scrapbook Scrapbook has several free prom printable pages you can use to create fun layouts.

Of course, memorabilia, such as prom tickets, dried flowers from a corsage and matchbooks from the event, play a huge role in layouts. You could potentially incorporate a ton of souvenirs from the big day into your scrapbooking project at no extra cost.
