Pop Culture Potpourri: Bill Cosby’s Plea To Parents, “Borat’s” Going To Be A Parent, and More

BILL COSBY’S PLEA TO PARENTS

Bill Cosby has never been one to hold his tongue when it comes to the issue of raising better children and this week was no exception. Yesterday, the actor joined several hundreds of anti-violence advocates for a march through West Philadelphia. He later called on parents and community elders to encourage children to help stop a wave of violence that has plagued the city for more than a year. And in true Cosby fashion he didn’t mince words.

“You’ve got to teach your children how to think,” Cosby said. “You watch one blow the other one’s head off and how can you feel good about yourself?”

Cosby’s participation in the march comes on the heels of a new study that shows the City of Brotherly Love is hardly that. In fact, the city’s homicide rate of more than a murder a day in 2007 is ahead of last year’s pace, when the homicide count of more than 400 was the highest in nine years.

Cosby, a Philadelphia native, has pledged to take part in four more anti-violence events with Men United for a Better Philadelphia.

“BORAT’S” GOING TO BE A PARENT

“Borat” star Sacha Baron Cohen is going to be a dad before the end of the year. The actor announced Sunday that his longtime girlfriend, Australian actress Isla Fisher is expecting a baby this winter.

Fisher showed off her new figure at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, with Cohen often rubbing her belly.

PARIS BEHIND BARS

Paris Hilton’s mom is said to be putting on a brave face as her daughter sits in solitary confinement for violating probation. According to news sources, Kathy Hilton is said to be “emotional,” but hopes her daughter will emerge from jail a better person.

Meantime, there’s been no official word from either Mama or Papa Hilton regarding the newest dig on their daughter’s incarceration. Haven’t you heard? An online video game has been created in honor of the jailed heiress. The Game Show Network created a video game called “The Prison Life: Paris.” Players control an animated Paris Hilton — dressed in an orange jumpsuit, stilletto heels and massive designer sunglasses — as she completes a task for a jail warden.

The introduction to the game states: “Paris is in jail and the warden has assigned her to design and build license plates. Help her with her job and watch out for her little dog ‘Clinkerbell’!” In the game Paris mans a conveyor belt that rolls out license plates which the socialite must stamp with “PRSN LYF” and “DRV2FST.” The object is to stamp the plates and to avoid accidentally squashing pesky “Clinkerbell.”
