In just a few hours, holiday celebrations will give way to hangovers, a home that needs a good cleaning, and kids who don’t want to go back to school on Tuesday.
Not exactly prime scrapbooking material.
Still, just because Christmas and New Year’s are over doesn’t mean you should neglect documenting the rest of the season. Winter brings with it a litany of lovely scrapbooking opportunities. For example, you could design a layout of your kids participating in outdoor winter activities, such as making snowmen, catching snowflakes on their tongues, skiing, sledding or having a huge snowball fight. Another option is to record activities that take place during a snow day from school. Get shots of your kids helping you shovel the driveway, drinking hot chocolate around the fireplace or organizing winter gear, including coats, boots, and gloves.
Once you decide on a theme for your layouts, work on some catchy titles like “Let it Snow,” Chill Out,” “The Joys of January,” “Bundle Up,” “Snow Angels,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Ice Queen.” You can spice up your page titles by using different fonts or consider adding stamps or stickers to make the words pop. Alphabet stickers can be embellished with glitter or flocking powder, and for an added touch you could place small snowflake brads on some of the letters to really make them shine.
As for color schemes, winter whites, blues and silver are great choices for a peaceful palette. Of course, you don’t have to use those hues exclusively. Instead, consider combining them with different shades, such as navy blue, red, pink or lavender. Once you select the photos you want to feature in your layouts it will be easier for you to pick colors that will complement the images. Then, add touches of silver and gold to make your background sparkle.
