Practical Gifts for a Frugal Family

gas pump Giving great gifts is always a good feeling. If you are wondering what gifts might be most appreciated by a frugal family (or if you can think of ideas for your own wish list) you might want to take a look at the following ideas. Yes, they are all very practical gifts, although that doesn’t mean that a little pampering couldn’t be thrown in. For example, a gift of service could mean anything from a gift of lawn service done by the giver to a a series of hair cuts and styles done in a high-end spa.

Take a look below for more ideas. See if you are inspired to give or even receive…

Gift cards

While gift cards may be a problem if they are never used, frugal families usually make a point in not letting anything go to waste. This means that there is a higher probability, I think, that gift cards will actually be used by a frugal family when compared to the average family. Gift cards for necessary items, such as groceries are always appreciated.

Blankets

Many frugal families tend to keep their homes a bit cooler in the winter to save on the high cost of heating. A warm blanket for their bed or even a throw blanket or two for curling up on the couch are nice ideas to help the family stay comfortable. One of the best gifts we ever received for the holidays was a down comforter.

Sweaters and house jackets

Blankets aren’t the only things to keep a family warm. Comfortable oversized sweaters, fleece pullovers and easy jackets can do wonders to warm everyone up. Lowering the thermostat just a few degrees can save hundreds of dollars a year. Sweaters, pullovers and jackets can also be used to layer under a coat for outside, serving a dual purpose.

Gas cards

We all know that gas prices are outrageous. Still, the car is necessary for many things. Having a loaded gas card available may inspire a frugal family to do something fun and frugal, such as drive around and watch holiday lights, as well as be used for the more practical trips.
