Preparation

Part of living frugally includes preparing for the future. If we are able to set money aside for an emergency, then we can avoid some potential financial disasters in our lives. These emergencies can come in various forms. A few emergencies that you might want to consider preparing for are listed below. Check out the articles about each topic found at the Preparedness Blog.

Financial Emergencies

Financial emergencies can cover any type of large, unexpected expense. Insurance and savings are the best ways to prepare for most financial emergencies such as expensive repairs, job loss, death of a family member, or a medical emergency.

See “Are You Prepared for a Financial Emergency?” on the Preparedness blog for more information.

Storing Food
You may not consider food storage as an important aspect of frugal living. However, consider what frugal living means. Most importantly, it is self-sufficiency. Frugal living means being smart about how you spend your money. This includes preparing for emergencies. In addition, storing food can save you money if you stock up when items are on sale.

See “Why Store Food” on the Preparedness blog for more reasons to store food.

Natural Disasters
There are many different emergencies that can be caused by severe weather. A natural disaster can be a horrible financial crisis for your family. The better prepared you are, the less the disaster will affect you. Depending on where you live, the disasters that might affect you will differ. Here in the Phoenix area, there is not reason to prepare for hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes. However, it is smart to prepare for power outages (especially during the summer), flooding, or fires.
