You may not consider food storage as an important aspect of frugal living. However, consider what frugal living means. Most importantly, it is self-sufficiency. Frugal living means being smart about how you spend your money. This includes preparing for emergencies. In addition, storing food can save you money if you stock up when items are on sale.

Natural Disasters
There are many different emergencies that can be caused by severe weather. A natural disaster can be a horrible financial crisis for your family. The better prepared you are, the less the disaster will affect you. Depending on where you live, the disasters that might affect you will differ. Here in the Phoenix area, there is not reason to prepare for hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes. However, it is smart to prepare for power outages (especially during the summer), flooding, or fires.
