Preserving Summer Memories

left

Now that summer has officially arrived, there’s no time like the present to preserve all those seasonal memories. Whether it’s a cross-country trip to grandma’s house, experiencing the thrills and chills of a world-famous theme park or having fun in the sun at the beach, don’t forget to pack your camera so that you can document every fun-filled moment.

Once you get home you can sort through your shots and create a storyline of your summer fun in a themed scrapbook. While you are organizing your pictures think of ways to pair them with appropriate embellishments that will make your pages pop. For example, if you are creating a layout of a recent trip to the beach, consider using tan-colored background paper as sand and topping part of it with blue vellum to recreate the ocean. You can make the vellum look more like real waves by cutting the top of it with scalloped scissors and arranging it so that it overlaps stickers of starfish and seaweed. Next, strategically place photos taken of your loved ones at the beach on the page, and then add some photo captions or leave space for a journaling block. You can further decorate the layout with die cuts, stamps or real shells collected during your beach vacation.

If you have yet to embark on a summer trip to the shore, now is the ideal time to devise a list of possible photo ops. The sky is the limit when it comes to snapping keepers at the beach, but some shots are easier than others to display in summer scrapbooks. For example, traditional images, such as footprints in the sand, kids splashing in the waves or building a sandcastle, mom applying sunscreen on a baby, grandpa napping in the sun, teens playing volleyball, or the entire clan licking ice cream cones while watching the sunset are easily incorporated into beach-themed layouts, especially with all of the corresponding beach-related embellishments available online and in scrapbook supply stores.
