Prince Charles Narrates Green Doc

You may have heard of the Sundance Film Festival, the popular event held each January in Utah. You may or may not know that actor Robert Redford was the founder of the Sundance Film Festival. You may also not know that Sundance now has a festival in London (Sundance London). And, you may not know that tonight is the opening night of the first Sundance London Festival.

Premiering at Sundance London this year is Harmony: A New Way of Looking At Our World. What makes this documentary so special? Prince Charles narrates the flick and will be there to introduce it to the film crowd. There to introduce Prince Charles will be Robert Redford.

May not seem like a big connection between the actor and potentially future King of England, but there is. Both are very passionate about environmental causes. Redford had nothing but praise for Prince Charles and the film while Prince Charles said he was “enormously touched and honored” by Redford’s words and the fact that his documentary was premiering at the festival. He also said he owed Redford a “huge debt of gratitude” for bringing the film festival to England.

What is Harmony about? It tells how Prince Charles worked with environmentalists as well as government and business leaders to help address ecological and economic problems. The documentary is based on a book by the same name. The book was co-written by Prince Charles, Tony Juniper, and Ian Skelly.

In his introduction, Prince Charles told the crowd that there was more urgency to do something about environmental dangers “if for nothing else, the sake of our children and grandchildren and all who come after us.”

He jokingly said he hoped people stayed awake during his documentary and seriously said that he hoped people realize that there are other ways to look at things now.

Redford said he thought Prince Charles had been ahead of the curve for working for a greener future.

I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
