Prince Harry Gets Dumped

Who dumps a prince anyway?

Prince Harry may finally be getting a taste of what it’s like to have girl troubles. (Must run in the family.) British newspapers are reporting that Harry and his girlfriend of more than three years, Chelsy Davy have broken up.

The News of the World is saying that the 22-year-old stunning blonde ended the romance in a series of tearful phone calls, telling Harry: “It’s over.”

Sources say Davy grew tired of the prince’s playboy lifestyle and his “total lack of commitment.”

You know, I did think it was strange that Harry attended the rugby world cup final in Paris in October instead of celebrating Davy’s birthday with her. But I figured the trip was part of Prince Harry’s royal duties and rationalized that after three years Davy was used to her man having to represent Britain at international events. Though, in the back of my mind I did wonder how Harry broke the news to Davy: “Sorry, Chels, I’ve got to root on my boys. Have fun without me.” Hmmm…

Another source says the handsome couple simply “fell out of love.”

According to news reports, a senior palace aide echoed the same sentiment: “The relationship is over. It has simply run its course. Harry will be carrying on with his army career and Chelsy will continue with her studies.”

The Zimbabwe-born blonde bombshell met Prince Harry the year before he joined the army. The couple was often photographed at public events sharing affectionate moments–most notably in the stands of Wembley Stadium during the recent Concert for Diana.

In fact, Davy’s close friend told news reporters that many in royal circles thought they might walk down the aisle before Prince William and Kate Middleton, they were that close. So close that Davy recently moved to England to start a post-graduate degree course at Leeds University. According to sources, she had the option to continue her studies in sun-drenched Cape Town but instead chose Leeds to be closer to Harry.

According to news reports, Davy told pals she was happy to be beginning a new life in Britain and looked forward to spending every weekend with Prince Harry. But, sources say despite Davy traveling 200 miles to London twice last month, Harry had only made the trip up north once since his girlfriend enrolled at Leeds.

As one friend put it: “It’s ironic that Chelsy and Harry had a beautiful relationship when they were 6,000 miles apart. But when they lived 3 hours apart they could only make it last two months.”

And, it appears Prince Harry is not taking the news of the split all that hard. Local newspapers reported that Harry was seen consoling himself with a mystery brunette at a London nightclub on Friday.

What do you make of the royal split?
