Princess Smartypants is a book about a princess whose father wants her to get married. The princess who is already rich just wants to live in her castle with her pets and do as she pleases without a husband.
During the book the princess puts a series of different suitors through tests in order to win her hand in marriage. Each prince is given a task that they would more than likely find impossible and all of the prince’s fail.
The final prince, Prince Swashbuckle, surprises Princess Smartypants by not only completing the task she had designed for him, but all of the ones she had assigned to her other suitors as well.
When he completes the final task princess Smartypants gives him a magic kiss, which turns the handsome prince into a gigantic warty toad. The now toad prince speeds away in his sports car never to be heard from again.
After all of the other princes hear what happened to Prince Swashbuckle they are no longer interested in Princess Smartypants and she can live in her castle with her animals forever.
This is a great short story for a little girls bedtime. The book is beautifully illustrated and is only around twenty pages. Parents will find a little humor in the names of all of the prince’s that come to see Princess Smartypants such as Prince Vertigo who she asks to save her from her tower. In that respect this book can be a fun one for both you and your children.
Princess Smartypants is a different sort of princess tale than you traditionally find in fairy tales. In most stories the princess is looking for a prince, in this one she would rather live without one. It is also funny that in the end the handsome prince turns into a toad, rather than the other way around.
