I swear I’m not making days up just so you have to buy your wife yet another gift. There really is such a thing as Wife Appreciation Day and it’s celebrated on September 15. Which, if you consult a calendar, you’ll see is Saturday.
“That’s only two days away! How am I going to find time to get a gift for my wife by then?”
Simmer down now. No need to panic. You’re missing the key word, and thus the point, of the day: appreciation.
It’s not about extravagant gifts. It’s about showing her how much you value all those little things she does for you day in and day out.
Think about them. Does your wife take care of the cooking and cleaning? What about the shopping? Does she make sure the pantry’s stocked with your favorite snacks and the fridge always holds your favorite beer (or whatever other beverage you may be partial to)? If your underwear gets worn out does she take the time to buy you new ones? Does she stop and rent your favorite videos for you without you asking her to do it?
Think along those lines, all the small things she does that are actually daily tokens of her love for you. You appreciate them, right?
Okay, so give the gift of reciprocation. Take Saturday to shower some tokens back on her. Buy her a card just to say you love her. Make her breakfast, or clean them if you don’t usually. Help her out by doing some task you know she has to do that day, even something as mundane as cleaning out the litter box. Catch her off guard. Pull her into your arms and tell her how much you love and appreciate all she does for you. (Give specifics, this will really warm her heart and show you pay attention.)
You may even surprise her with your gestures. Since the day isn’t widely popular, she may not even know it exists. How romantic is that for you to know and then celebrate it and her? I’d say that’s a guaranteed brownie points winner if I ever heard one!
