Qualities of a Christian Family

Over the past few blogs I have really been focusing on the Christian family. There are many distinct qualities a Christian family should exhibit in order to not only function well, but also to be pleasing to the Lord.

  1. Live life in subjection to God and His commandments. A Christian family should always have God as the centerpiece and foundation of their lives.
  2. Spend time together. Spending time together as a family allows the family the opportunity to understand each other’s needs.
  3. Study together. God’s word is a wonderful and precious gift. What a wonderful way to spend time together as a family! Studying the Bible together as a family will hopefully result in a deeper and better understanding of God’s Word.
  4. Pray together, and pray for one another. Taking time to pray together shows dedication to the Lord. Praying together as a family also strengthens the family bond.
  5. Trust one another. Family members must be able to trust one another. If a family member cannot trust other family members, how can the family be there to help each other in a time of need?
  6. Depend on one another. The family unit is designed to be a support system. Family members ought to be there for each other in the good times and the bad times, supporting one another.
  7. Treat one another with respect. In Matthew 19:19 (as well as in other passages) the Bible states: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”
  8. Love one another.

In 1st John 4:7-11 the Bible states: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
