Quick Household Remedies for Stomach Problems

You don’t always have to turn to the drug store when you’ve eaten something that doesn’t agree with you. There are plenty of things around the house that can help ease an upset stomach!

Feeling nauseated? Having a bout of indigestion? Try this:

  • Sip ginger ale. Any flat soda can help settle your stomach, but ginger has long been used in easing stomach problems.
  • Try a spoonful of the syrup from a can of fruit. Many over-the-counter stomach remedies are mostly sugar anyway!
  • Suck on a peppermint or chew mint gum. Mint is another stomach settler, and the act of chewing can encourage your stomach to produce extra digestive juices.
  • Tea made from pomegranate peel or oak bark can help ease an upset stomach. Steep the dried peel or dried bark in boiling water for several minutes; sip a few teaspoons of tea every few hours.
  • Think you may have food poisoning? Try burned toast and black tea. The charcoal of the burned toast and the tannic acid in the black tea will help neutralize any toxins in your system.
  • Use your nose to fix your stomach. Head for the kitchen and sniff some of your favorite savory spices. This will signal your brain to tell your stomach to start producing more digestive juices that can help break down a lump of food in your belly.

Got gas? You can relieve it with ease with some simple yoga: lay on your back with your legs out straight. Draw one leg up to your chest and hold for thirty seconds. Repeat with the other leg. Finally, bring both up for thirty seconds. The movement will get the gas pockets moving.

And if your stomach is pitching a fit because you had too much to drink, pour yourself a glass of tomato juice with a dash of Tabasco sauce. The combination will stimulate your liver and help your body replenish antioxidants. Antioxidants help your body clear away dangerous free radicals.
