Quick Winter Beauty Tips

Sometimes, it feels like I have a whole different body for each season. My skin, hair, and nails are totally different in the winter than they are in the warmer, more humid summer months!

Quick winter beauty tips for your hair:

  • Is your scalp getting flaky? Check your hat. Wearing hats can trap sweat and oil on your scalp! Hats made from natural fibers allow better perspiration evaporation. Help eliminate flakes with a daily scalp massage while you shampoo. Switching shampoos might help, too — try something with stimulating peppermint or eucalyptus.
  • Is your hair dry and brittle? Start with a trim. That will get rid of the split ends. Use a conditioner a few times a week, and limit your hair’s exposure to heat — air dry instead of blow dry when you can.
  • Is your hat making your hair shocking? Smooth staticy hair with a dryer sheet. The dryer sheet trick works for staticy clothes, too.

Quick winter beauty tips for your skin:

  • Is cold weather exercise drying out your skin? Try a cream to form a barrier between your skin and the elements. A thin layer of Vaseline can protect your skin from wind and cold.
  • Seeing more wrinkles during the winter months? Dry weather can make fine lines appear more prominent. Be sure to drink plenty of water, use a moisturizer on your face, and run a humidifier at night for an extra moisture boost. That humidifier is good for your respiratory system, too.
  • Planning a day on the slopes? Don’t forget the sunscreen. You may want to look for a hydrating sunscreen, as cold winter air can dry your skin. Use a higher SPF at higher elevations — you’re closer to the sun, silly!
  • Not loving your pale winter skin and your bright lipstick? Switch to a color that’s a shade or two deeper than your usual summer brights. The darker colors will look richer against your paler skin; bright pinks and corals can look unnatural in the winter.
