Quirks

Everyone has their quirks. I have plenty to go around.

My Quirks

I hate talking on the phone. I know business is based on communication. I know there will com times in business when you have to speak on the phone. However, I try to avoid it at all costs. I am happy emailing. I have strong introvert tendencies. I suppose that is why writing comes easier to me.

I have to have access to a pen. Most of my work is conducted online which means I use a keyboard. If I am working on my writing, I use a keyboard. Yet, I cannot sit down at my desk without having a pen in reach. Not just any pen will do…it must be a pen that writes smoothly. I also prefer blue ink. I know many say black is more business like.

I have to check email and Facebook before I do anything else in the morning, besides having a cup of coffee. Perhaps that is not a quirk. It makes sense that one would check email first thing. Both are quick for me to check, or at lease it seems it will be that way before I start.

I cannot take a lunch break and just eat. On my lunch, I have to be “doing” something. It could be planning my next step or reading a business article but I cannot just relax at lunch.

I do my best work at midnight. The house is quiet and there are no distractions. Except my quirk of requiring background noise.

I cannot listen to YouTube while I work. Since YouTube is visual, I cannot look away. I use it as a break.

I prefer to write my to-do list and calendar than use my smartphone. I have two planners and one notebook to plan my day. I must always have my date book in view because I am lost without it. I don’t store things on my phone as much as I write them in my datebook.
