I read that pets are likely to be just as overweight as their owners. Boy oh boy how I wish that were true in this house because my two are solid muscle.

The Chihuahua Rescue and Transport is holding their annual fundraiser on February 11th. According to their press release, “The festival will include a silent auction, a Chi-Idol Contest, a Valentine’s photo opportunity with human and dog and live entertainment. In New Hampshire, a 19 year old was arrested for stealing a Chihuahua. If convicted she could face up to 7 years in prison. I can see it now, “what are you in for” the hardened criminals will ask; “Chihuahua theft” she’ll reply.

I am not sure why this is news but actress Scarlett Johansson has decided to adopt a Chihuahua puppy. She already has a kitten and a lizard.

In other news, Sony is discontinuing their robotic dog, the Aibo. They will however continue selling them on their website until the inventory is gone.

Moving on to the insulting, the owner of a New Zealand dog biscuit company has offered to send powdered dog food to help feed the children of Kenya. “I made it out of ingredients they (children) are used to eating, so the main bulk product is corn,” said the owner. The company also said that it would be distributed as a nutritional supplement and not dog food.

According to Reuters, the government spokesperson said, “The offer was very naive and culturally insulting given the meaning of dogs in our culture, we understand where she was coming from, and we appreciate it, but it is culturally unacceptable.”
