Ray Romano was born on December 21, 1957, in Queens, New York, to Albert and Lucie Romano. He attended elementary and middle school in Forest Hills, New York, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs with Pia Zadora and David Caruso. He attended Hillcrest High School along with classmate, Fran Drescher of “Nanny” fame. In 1993, he appeared on her show as his Ray Barone character.
Before breaking into show business, Ray had aspirations of becoming an accountant. He began his career appearing on “Comedy Central” and was originally cast in the role of a technician in a sitcom called “News Radio” from which he was fired. The problem was that his particular brand of verbal humor did not blend well with the fast repartee of the rest of the cast. But he showed them shortly thereafter, when he became the star of his own show, “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which was more suitable to his type of comedy.
Ray Romano met his wife, Anna Scarpulla, when they both worked at the Williamsburg Savings Bank in Queens back in 1982. As the story goes, he asked out three girls and Anna was the only one who would go out with him. He showed her too, and now they have four children, a daughter, a son and twin boys like his television counterpart. In the year 2000, Ray appeared on the popular quiz show, “Who Wants to be a His brother is a sergeant in the NYPD and in 2001 he was featured with his famous brother on an NYPD recruiting poster.
Ray Romano has been named one of the top twenty entertainers of the year and in 2004 became the highest paid television actor in history with a salary of $50,000,000 for his role in “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
