Readying the Baby’s Room

Preparing the nursery has become an endless task. I went from merely gathering ideas to implementing projects towards its completion. It seems that I keep finding more projects for the nursery (which is also our son’s room). Some projects have been started and amazingly finished, while other projects have been started and temporarily abandoned to start additional projects.

Our combined nursery/toddler room has changed significantly since we first moved back to the midwest. After discovering that we are having a girl, I knew exactly what theme I was going with for our baby daughter: ballet. However, I had never picked a theme for our son who is now two. Given his love for music, I finally chose a musical instrument theme. I have already completed two paintings of abstracted instruments and I have also finally hung the wooden letters that spell out his name. Additionally, I rearranged the beds to better divide the room.

Pulling together the nursery elements of the room has been a little more difficult. I quickly and easily finished one painting of a ballerina. In the midst of working on the musical instrument paintings, I started another painting of ballet shoes, but I have yet to finish it. It has been a couple weeks since I have worked on the second ballet painting. Instead I have been focusing on getting the linens for the room together: new white crib sheet and white changing pad cover. While I have all the measurements for the white bed skirt and matching bumper, I have yet to find a simple white cotton fabric that I like. Instead of spending the time to finish either project, I found a pair of pointe shoes at extreme discount and spent an hour hand sewing ribbons on the point shoes, which are now hanging on the nursery side of the room.

I am hoping to start making the bed skirt and crib bumper soon and hopefully in the midst of lots and lots of sewing I will find renewed inspiration to finish the painting of ballet shoes.
