Recent Celebrity Splits

I learned of two celebrity splits today – well, one celebrity split and one pseudo-celebrity split.

The pseudo-celebrity split was a reality couple – “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” couple Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif has called it quits. It was actually Nassif that filed for legal separation today. He told TMZ, “The welfare of our children is my primary focus as Adrienne and I work through this difficult time.” He added, “I want the best for her and our children and I hope that everyone can respect our privacy away from the cameras.” The couple has three sons and has been married for nine years.

Maloof emailed the Huffington Post with a statement which read, “I am devoted to my children and nothing else is as important as giving them the shelter and care that I have always made my priority!”

I don’t watch “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” so I am not sure if that is a shocking split or not, but I was a bit shocked to learn that Bret Michaels and his on-again/off-again girlfriend/fiancée of 18 years, Kristi Gibson, called it quits.

Michaels and Gibson have two daughters, Raine, 12, and Jorja, 7. In 2010, during the finale of his reality show “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It,” Michaels proposed to Gibson, saying “I love you, and you’ve been unbelievably a big part of my life, and we have two beautiful girls together. … I know we love and respect each other, and I hope that we can find that inner love that we have forever. And I want you to be my wife.”

Eh, easy come, easy go. This week, Michaels announced that he and Gibson had not only called off the engagement, they were separating.

Michael’s rep released a statement to PEOPLE that said, “Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters.”

Okay, now that I think about it, after 18 years and two children together with no marriage, maybe it isn’t that shocking.
