Reflections on the Past Year

happy new year

We are nearing the end of the year but before you start making plans for next year, you should spend some time reflecting on the past year. What have been the ups and downs of your home-based business this past year? What have been the good things and the bad things that have happened?

The reason it’s important to think about these things is because you need a foundation to build upon, before you can enter the New Year. You don’t want to make some of the same mistakes you have already made. So by recognizing those things that need work or changing, you can better prepare for next year.

Spend time making a list of all the things you would have done differently or the mistakes you know were made. Include on this list the things that have hurt your home-based business whether it’s related to people, events or other circumstances.

Acknowledging these things can help eliminate the chance they will happen again. You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge, as Dr. Phil is notorious for saying. So be sure to have a clear understanding of those things that went wrong.

But you also want to write down all the good things about your home-based business. This should be done last so you end on a more positive note. Spend time recognizing your accomplishments and the rewarding outcomes you have experienced. Determine that next year will be filled with more of them.

Reflection is the first step toward making New Year’s Resolutions, goals or whatever else you do to prepare for the start of a New Year. Before you can look forward, you sometimes have to look back. But the great thing is that you don’t have to remain there. You take a little snapshot of the past and you create something much better for the future.
