I live in sunny California, and I can only imagine what the rest of America is experiencing right now with the snow. Anything that people start referring to as “snowmaggedon” sounds like a situation that I want absolutely no part of. There is a reason why I moved out of the Midwest several years ago, and that reason is cold, white, and powdery. Snowflakes that stay on your nose, and eyelashes, are definitely not a few of my favorite things!
However, having spent about thirty years living through “Chicago winters”, I do remember what it is like to be stuck inside, for several days, due to severe winter weather. Days like that used to make me want to stay indoors, where I could be warm and comfortable, and snuggled under a blanket or two. Personally, I found that those kinds of sleepy winter days are the perfect time to sit down, relax, and catch up on all those books that I’ve been meaning to read. After all, it’s not like one can go anywhere, when the winter weather is severe enough to close schools and businesses.

An aging (fictional) rock star makes an online purchase of a heart shaped box, that is said to contain the ghost of the man whose clothing is inside the box. Absolutely terrifying story, that I couldn’t put down once I started reading it!
“The Art of Racing in the Rain”, by Garth Stein, is also included in this sale. It’s a fiction book told from the viewpoint of a dog, and was a bestseller when it first came out. “Coop: A Family, a Farm, and the Pursuit of One Good Egg” by Michael Perry is a non-fiction book about one family’s experience trying to live the so called simple life of farmers.
