Saying “I Love You”

Three little words can take a relationship to a whole new level. Saying “I love you” is thought to be a big step for any couple. However, there are many different degrees and uses for the phrase. Some people tend to take it more serious than others.

Some couples, such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, do not feel the need to confess their love with terms and phrases such as “I love you”. As a matter of fact, they do not say it at all. Brad has never said those three sacred words to Angelina. Some couples do need to hear words of affection. They feel that acts such as these will cause their relationship to get too sentimental and ‘mushy’. They are not willing to completely surrender their hearts to another.

While Brad and Angelina may be too far on the extreme of not expressing their feelings, some people tend to go overboard with the phrase and use it very loosely without feeling and meaning. Saying “I love you” should be something that is shared with someone very special. A feeling should be associated with the phrase.

We normally have many different types of love and uses for saying “I love you”. We use the term with our spouses, children, close friends, and family. The most intimate use should be between couples.

In my relationship, expressing love verbally is very important. It is true that I know that my husband loves me even though he walks out of the door in the morning without speaking the three words. However, it is very important to me that I ensure him and my children that my love is there and strong. In a world like we live in today we never know what words may be our last. In my thoughts, what better words would I want my dear ones to remember me saying other than “I love you”? I can think of none better.
