School Rules Scrapbook

I’m still working on my daughter’s first grade scrapbook. And by working I mean that I am on my second page. Never mind that the school year officially ends in less than six weeks. But, hey, who’s counting?

I discussed some of my layout ideas in a previous blog, but what about the woulda, coulda, shouldas that I didn’t have the foresight to consider? Here they are:

Handprint: Last year my daughter’s kindergarten teacher had all of the kids make a handprint art project on the first day of school. Then, on the last day of school, they made another one, so you could see how much they grew in the course of the academic year. I loved the idea and vowed that I would do it again on the first day of first grade. Well, that never happened, so that before and after layout is a wash. However, it’s certainly something I want to do next year.

Reading: My first grader reads on a third grade level, which means that we are responsible for bringing in books from home because the school will not allow her to borrow books from upper levels to facilitate her advanced placement. (Don’t even get me started on that.) I had planned to create a layout listing all of the books she read during first grade and use some cute Dr. Seuss paper and stickers I found on sale, but I failed to record the titles she completed in September, October and November. I could salvage the idea and design a page with the titles and book reports she did from December on. I’ll see how the scrapbook looks in about a month, and then decide if this idea is worth pursuing.

Cute sayings: This one makes me very sad. I pledged at the beginning of the school year that I would keep a list of cute sayings my daughter uttered in regards to her classroom experience. She’s been in school since September and all I managed to jot down were five special quotes. Fail!

Hopefully, I can get my act together and finish her first grade memory album before she enters second grade.
