Scrap the Love for Dad

I’m still kicking myself for not making an ABC scrapbook for Father’s Day. The problem with crafting ABC memory books is that they are not as quick and easy to assemble as standard themed scrapbooks (at least for me, anyway). Whenever I commit to creating an ABC scrapbook I need time to sketch layouts and gather materials that are appropriate for each of the 26 pages.

Given that we are less than a week away from Father’s Day, it may be unrealistic to undertake the construction of an ABC memory album. However, there are several other options you can pursue if you are determined to gift dad with an album full of love.

For example, you might consider scrapping certain aspects of your father’s life instead of diving head first into a project that features a bunch of random photos and memorabilia. One of the most touching Dad’s Day memory books on display at my local scrapbook shop celebrates the military achievements of the owner’s father.

If you know a dad, who is a veteran or active-duty military personnel, consider documenting the time he has spent serving our country. Include formal and informal photos of him in uniform, maps of where he served, and photo copies of any awards or accolades he has earned. In the display scrapbook at the shop, the owner also included copies of letters and cards sent to her dad from her mom when he was serving abroad. It is a precious feature that shows how much he was missed and loved.

If your dad did not serve in the military, then go the traditional route and create an album that documents his life from birth to present day in chronological order. Be sure to feature photos from when he was a kid, including ones from birthday parties, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, as well as school photos. Finally, don’t forget to add special memorabilia such as report cards, awards or any other honors he may have earned over the years.
