Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to include dozens of stickers, stamps or die cuts to make a scrapbook layout stand out. In fact, often, less is more when it comes to creating a memorable page design. Clean, crisp photos and simple yet sophisticated arrangements are all that are needed to craft a work of art in the world of scrapbooking.
While some maintain that simple equates to boring, I could not disagree more. Beginner scrappers should know that simplicity isn’t for amateurs only. There are many veteran scrappers who opt to keep their layouts simple in order to get more pages done in a short amount of time. What’s more, basic page designs don’t mean that you have to skimp on creativity or fun.
Some how do you streamline scrapbook layouts without compromising the overall look of the page? Here are some tips:
1. Stick with primary colored cardstock or simple patterned paper for backgrounds. Doing so will allow you flexibility with your designs.
2. Limit the number of photos you use to three or less. Even single photo layouts can make a page pop if you arrange them in an eye-catching combo with a few other simple embellishments.
3. Skip the matting on pictures. Instead use affordable photo corners.
4. Keep the embellishments to a minimum. Also, the ones that you do feature should be user-friendly, such as stickers, stamps or rub-ons.
5. Increase the size of journaling blocks. You don’t have to write more if you don’t want to. Rather, use a larger, easy-to-read font and place the block in a prominent place on the page.
6. Stick with a chronological approach when designing your book. This makes it easier to tell a story with your photos. In addition, it makes it easier for the viewer to follow as the scrapbook progresses.
